This book failed to hook me. I read the whole thing, but only because once I start a book, I find it really hard to stop unless the book is truly awful. I read it more to finish it than because of any urgency to find out the ending. And the ending wasn't anything to write home about, either.
The book started out in Springfield, MO, which is pretty cool because it's close to where I grew up. However, after the prologue, Springfield never returned, so I'm not sure why it even mattered.
I found some of the turns of phrase to be really jarring. There were so many references to skin tightening that the mental image may be permanently burned into my brain. That and the smell of Lilly's skin. Bleh.
