2 stars. Started out a solid four, dropped to two in the middle and never really recovered. I liked the world building and the story started out interesting enough. I liked Diana but hated Matthew.
Writing an "uber-alpha" who isn't an asshole is tricky, and this book didn't pull it off. Matthew was quick to anger, overbearing, demanding, chauvinistic, and secretive, and none of those in a good way.
Although the author tried to show Matthew loved Diana, I couldn't help but draw unfavorable comparisons to an abusive relationship. It was never written that way, it was just a feeling I couldn't shake while reading.
Halfway through, I almost abandoned the book. Only the thought of plot resolution was enough to pull me onward and only barely. Had I known this was the first in a trilogy, it would've been DNF.
