This book was weird. It's written in first person present tense, which I'm not a huge fan of. And there are no chapters, just a wall of text from page one to page 388.
I stopped reading at page 50 and read two other books. I came back to this one, hoping for it to "get better" (I'm ever the book optimist). It didn't.
I really wanted to like this book. It had so many things going for it--angels, demons, magic, and an unique voice. However, it just didn't work for me. I read to the end to get to the end, not because the story pulled me along.
And the end. Oy. Our perfect, indestructible hero figures out he really is a special snowflake. Bleh.
Give it a shot if you like your Urban Fantasy dark, violent, and somewhat sacrilegious, but if you aren't hooked by page 50, don't expect it to get any better.
