Ender's Game (Ender, Book 1)

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card I'm not sure how to rate this book. I didn't really like it, but I thought it was beautifully written in a few places. And it made me feel sad and unhappy when I read it, which means that I cared enough about it to care.

I never really connected to Ender. I thought kids didn't behave like kids. This is partially forgiven because they are supposed to be super geniuses, but Ender was six in the beginning of the book. Adults were completely evil and manipulative. And it was never clearly explained why it had to be kids. Don't you have any smart (slightly sociopathic) adults tucked away somewhere?

If it hadn't been a classic, I probably would've quit after the first third. I feel bad saying this about a book that others obviously love (and that won a bunch of awards), but it just didn't click for me. I kept waiting for it to get good and it never did.
